Introduction

This dataset held at the BADC contains numerical model data from a number of Hadley Centre coupled model (HadCM3) experiments.
Theses data covers various time periods, but for the climate change experimenst are typically over the range 1989-2100 and contains all atmospheric fields derived from the HadCM3 model, at various time resolutions.

These pages describe the BADC archive of numerical model data from various experiments from the Hadley Centre coupled model (HadCM3). These data were extracted from the main Met Office archive as part of the DEFRA funded Climate Impacts LINK project.


Access Restrictions

Access to HadCM3 data at the BADC is open to all academic researchers, the only requirement is that the user has electronically accepted the Met Office conditions of use, as part of the LINK dataset requirements.

Please note that access to data is provided on a per person per project basis (i.e. all members on a same project who will be using the data must individually apply for access to the data).


Availability of data and file format

The directory holding the data files is located at : http://data.ceda.ac.uk/badc/hadcm3 or via ftp at /badc/hadcm3/data

Please note that the files are stored under directories named after their Met Office experment "runid's".

At the moment, these files are in PP format, although utilities are now available from the BADC to access and convert these into several other formats such as NetCDF.

Please Note:

It is possible to extract a just a subset of each PP file (if this is all that is required) if you have an account on login.badc.rl.ac.uk, using the convsh utilility. It is straightforward to set up a simple convsh script to process a PP file and store the output in your home directory. These data may then be ftp'd back to your local machine for analysis. Documentation for convsh is available, as well as some example scripts to illustrate how it should be used.

The Met Office Unified Model is a registered trademark. The Met Office must be acknowledged in any reproduction of data, publication of papers, reports, literature to customers or presentations arising out of the use of the software using: "Met Office Unified ModelTM (UK)".
